The 34-year-old former Olympic silver medallist stormed into an early 0.51 seconds after the first run - a lead he never looked like relinquishing.

And Cuche withstood a challenge from Austrian duo Stephan Goergl and Benjamin Raich to take gold in a combined time of 2:49.57 minutes.

It is Cuche's first World Cup victory of the season and the ninth of his career. Ivica Kostelic of Croatia finished 11th to stay atop the overall standings.
