The 32-year old had improved with every race in Vancouver, scooping downhill bronze before super G silver and finally super combined gold on Sunday.
But the American was quick to admit the giant slalom would be the weakest of his medal challenges and conceded the turns on the technical Whistler Creekside run would do no favours to his aging legs.
But Miller romped through the slalom leg to take super combined gold, raising hope he would contend in the giant slalom.
But the course proved too much for Miller on the day, falling more than a second behind Swiss leader Carlo Janka at the first intermediate before eventually missing a gate midway down the course.
USA's giant slalom World Cup leader Ted Ligerty provided some consolation for the American fans, placing eighth after the first run to maintain hopes of a medallist in every alpine event of the Games.
