Folkard leads the way for Great Britain at World Championships

NAOMI Folkard led the way for Team GB as all three British archers reached the knock-out stages of the women's recurve tournament at the World Championships in Ulsan, Korea.

Folkard's combined score over four distances was 1310, which saw her go through the head to head matches in 28th - 54 points short of top qualifier Ye Ji Kwak, who led a Korean 1-2-3.

Former Olympic bronze medallist Alison Williamson picked up 1305 points as she finished in 36th place, while Charlotte Burgess was 70th, courtesy of her 1258 points.

The trio collectively reached the team tournament in 16th place

On the opening day of competition, it was Nichola Simpson who excelled for the Brits in compound competition as she advanced in 18th place with a total of 1354.

Nicky Hunt was seven places and eight points adrift of her GB rival as both secured themselves first-round byes, while Lucy O'Sullivan went through in 64th place, ensuring the trip have a team ranking of 10th.

Linda Ochoa of Mexico was the top qualifier, with 1385 points, five head of Russia's Albina Loginova.

In the men's compound, Liam Grimwood and Duncan Busby also secured themselves first round byes after qualifying in 22nd and 27th place respectively.

James Forbes went through in 51st, and combined, they are ranked eighth for the team event.

There was an American 1-2 at the top of the men's rankings, with Reo Wilde, 1401, finishing ahead of Dave Cousins.
