Terry and Hunt reach World Cup Grand Final
SIMON Terry has booked his place at next month's World Cup Grand Final in Copenhagen despite a first round exit in Shanghai.
He lost out to China's Li Wenquan by 105 points to 101, but having captured gold in Antalya and bronze in Santo Domingo earlier in the season, he joins India's Jayunta Talukdar and France's Romaine Girouille in the men's recurve event in Denmark.
Jin Hyek Oh of Korea will complete the line up if he wins his gold medal match against China's Wenyuan Chen on Sunday. If he loses, then Italy's Marco Galiazzo goes through.
Also through to the Grand Final is Great Britain's Nicky Hunt, who reached the quarter-finals in Shanghai, before losing to Denmark's Camilla Soemod by just a point.
But her 113-112 defeat meant she will finish in fifth place overall, and whatever the outcome of Sunday's gold and bronze medal matches, Hunt will be one of the elite four going through to the Grand Final.
"Nicky has had a fantastic World Cup, with two fifth place finishes and a gold in Porec, and she's been in great form all year, and qualifying for Copenhagen is the result of all the hard work she has been putting in," said Archery GB performance manager Barry Eley.
"Simon, of course, has been superb since he returned to the sport five years ago - and qualifying for Copenhagen is just another milestone for him.
He won a World Championship medal two years ago, taking part in last year's Beijing Olympics, and winning individual and team medals at various World Cup events, including his gold in Turkey this year."
Larry Godfrey's slim hopes of snatching a Grand Final place disappeared when he too lost in the first round, to Malaysia's Mohd Zulkiffi Tahil, while Alan Wills made it to round two, before falling to Korea's Dong-Hyun Im, who went on to qualify for Sunday's bronze medal match.
In the women's recurve, Alison Williamson's hopes of a second Grand Final appearance - she took part in in Mexico in 2006 - came to an abrupt halt when she was also lost in the first round, to Miki Kanie of Japan.
