Terry strikes recurve silver at World Cup final in Denmark
SIMON Terry struck silver at the World Cup final in Copenhagen to provide some consolation for this month's World Championship heartache.
The 35-year old booked his place in the men's recurve gold medal match in Denmark with an impressive 112-108 win over France's former world youth champion Romain Girouille.
But the Brit struggled to recover from a slow start in the final and settled for silver after losing 108-105 to Italy's former Olympic champion Marco Galiazzo.
Terry has enjoyed a fantastic season this year and after winning the third stage of the World Cup in Antalya, Turkey in June, the Brit was expected to challenge at the World Championships in Korea earlier this month.
A surprise third-round defeat to fellow Brit Alan Willis in Korea threatened to end Terry's season on a sour note but the Brit bounced back in style in Denmark, notching nine perfect tens in his two matches - the most of any of the four finalists.
And Archery GB Performance Director Sara Symington was generous in her praise of the British archer.
"Simon can really hold his head high after his performances this season," said Symington.
"In the end, he's come out runner-up but it was a fantastic match and Marco is a world class archer.
"I really felt like the match could have gone either way and I know Simon's performance here will benefit him and British archery in general."
Britain's Nicky Hunt was also in Copenhagen, having qualified for the women's compound final after striking gold in the second stage in Porec, Croatia in May.
But despite two impressive performances the Brit was unable to snatch a medal in Denmark.
Hunt stood toe-to-toe with three arrows remaining against Venezuela's Luzmary Guedez but fired a 8-10-8 to her opponent's 9-10-9 to lose out.
And it was a similar story in Hunt's bronze medal match where the Brit was only 85-84 down with three arrows remaining against Croatia's Ivana Buden.
An 8-9-10 gave the Brit a fighting chance but three perfect tens from the Croatian ensured Hunt left empty handed.
