The former European cross country champion, who collapsed after finishing second in last year's event in Dublin, insisted he had fully recovered from the incident three weeks ago.

However, he had no answer to the speed of Kenya's Edwin Soi, who retained his title after clocking 28 minutes, 44 seconds around the ten kilometre course.

Imane Merga held off Farah to claim second in a close finish.

Newly crowned European champion Hayley Yelling was seventh in the women's event which was won by Ethiopia's Uture Sula, who finished just ahead of Slovenia's Sonja Roman and France's Christelle Daunay.
