DAVID Bolarinwa made amends for his disappointment at the recent Youth Olympic Games by defending his 100m title at the Sainsbury's UK School Games.

The 16-year old travelled to Singapore as the fastest under-18 in the world this year but settled for bronze as Jamaica's Odane Skeen stormed to gold in attention-grabbing style.

However, a meeting with Olympic champion Usain Bolt earlier this week clearly inspired the teenager, who clocked 10.81 seconds, bettering his 2009 championship record by 0.14.

"It was important for me to come back here and win this race again because what a champion does is he retains his title so I came out here to do my best and I am happy with the result," he said.

"It is my last year at the UK School Games and my last competition of the season so I wanted to go out on a high and I did just that."

Sophie McKinna, who has also just returned from the Youth Olympics, won the women's shot in a new Games record - throwing 14.53m to erase Rachel Wallander's four-year old mark of 12.54m.

Lucy Bryan set a new championship pole vault record of 3.80m while Michael Hartley bettered Gary Coulter's three-year old high jump best by five centimetres, clearing 2.08m.

Back on the track, Robbie Farnham-Rose clocked a new 3000m best, crossing the line in 8.30.55.
