ENGLAND Under-23 100m champion James Dasaolu has staked his claim for a spot on the Great Britain team for July's European Team Champions with a storming victory in Geneva.

The 21-year-old blitzed home in 10.09 seconds to claim victory ahead of fellow Brits Harry Aikines-Aryeetey (10.71) and Craig Pickering (10.31).

His time puts him joint second in the 2009 European rankings alongside fellow Brit Simeon Williamson and just 0.03 secs behind Dwain Chambers.

With only two 100m spots on offer for the new-look European Cup tournament, Dasaolu is likely to miss out, with Chambers and Williamson expected to get the nod.

But he has now done his chances of a relay spot in Leiria, Portugal later this month the world of good, having helped his team - including Pickering, Rikki Fifton and Aikines-Aryeetey - home in 38.55 secs in Switzerland.

Fifton also enjoyed his evening as he clocked a lifetime 200m best of 20.46 secs - good enough to top the European rankings and 0.05 secs faster than Chambers' season's best.

The European U23 bronze medallist's time in the 'B' race was quicker than that of Marlon Devonish, who won the main race in 20.60.

Conrad Williams also achieved his best-ever 400m time of 45.70 secs, but had to settle for second as Ireland's David Gillick won in 45.53 secs.

And 2008 world junior silver medallist Ashlee Nelson won the women's 100m in 11.43 secs, with Emily Freeman and Lee McConnell quickest in their 200m and 400m races with times of 23.09 secs and 51.98 secs respectively.
