Is Berlin's World Championship motto the worst ever written?

WHEN it comes to official mottos for sporting events it’s a case of the good, the bad and the ugly.

PROOF: Is this the worst motto in the history of any sporting in the world .... ever?
For every ‘Football’s Coming Home’ (Euro 96), there is a slightly less catchy ‘Together we will glorify this moment’ (1998 Commonwealth Games).
But Berlin – the hosts of the World Athletics Championships, which starts at the iconic Olympiastadion tomorrow - have plumbed new uninspiring depths.
After no doubt endless focus groups and countless thousands spent on branding specialists, they’ve come up with this cracker to sum up their championships - Have a Good Time.
They’ve even added an exclamation mark for extra emphasis and a little 'TM' at the end to trademark their quite woeful effort – not that anyone sane would plan on stealing it - unless you're a parent packing your kid off to their first day at big school.
Mottos are important marketing decisions and London 2012, who faced such criticism following the unveiling of their controversial logo, will need to get theirs right.
Putting aside those cynics who claim that ‘higher, busier, costlier’ would be appropriate, it remains one of the most important branding exercises that Lord Coe's Locog will undertake.
Recent Olympic history gives some interesting precedents, Beijing had ‘One World, One Dream’ while Turin came up with the vague but Olympian sounding ‘Passion Lives Here’.
I liked the understated ‘Welcome Home’ from Athens while Salt Lake City – plagued by corruption scandals – deserves a B plus for ‘Light the Fire Within’ - fire, Olympic torch, geddit?
Next year all eyes turn to Vancouver, who have used the Canadian national anthem as the inspiration for ‘With Glowing Hearts’ and ‘Des Plus Brilliant Exploits’.
If London’s international reputation for squelchy summers comes true in 2012, I’m suggesting (no need for a trademark, this one is yours pro bono Seb) - ‘Long to RAIN over us’.
