STEVE Cram was joined by a host of athletics legends as he celebrated the 25th anniversary of his famous world breaking season last night.

It's hard to believe that a quarter of a century has passed since Cram broke three middle distance world records in less than three weeks, including becoming the first man to ever run below three minutes 30 seconds for the 1500m in Nice exactly 25 years ago today.

His time of 3:29.67 is still the British record and former track stars - including Seb Coe, Said Aouita, Kelly Holmes, Michael Johnson and Daley Thompson - joined him at a charity event in London last night.

“Back in 1985, I was in the form of my life and the races I competed in during that period were quite incredible," said Cram.

“It is wonderful to now be reunited again with Said Aouita, Seb Coe and John Walker, who were truly great athletes and have all become good friends.

“As I turn 50, I am pleased to say that although I may not break any more world records, athletics is still very much part of my life. Commentating on major championships for the BBC is a real privilege and in October I am planning to lace up my running shoes again for the inaugural Kielder Marathon.”

London 2012 chairman Seb Coe, who missed out on erasing Cram’s record by a tenth of a second, when he ran his 1500m personal best in 1986, added: “Steve Cram set middle distance running alight in 1985 and we enjoyed some fantastic contests throughout our careers.

“Steve is one of the nicest and most normal all time greats I know. I’m closer to him tonight than I managed to be during the race.”

However, Cram admits he doesn’t see his 1500m British record being broken for some time.

Mike East’s 3.32.37 is the closet anyone has come in recent years while none of Britain’s middle distance contenders at this month’s European Championships in Barcelona are anywhere near to erasing the mark.

“But it’s hard to see it happening at the moment but I would love to see it in the future and I would to commentate on it,” added Cram.
