The new heptathlon world champion admitted the emotion of her victory had taken its toll and it leaves former national champion Sarah Claxton to fly the British flag in tomorrow's hurdles heats.

Ennis will receive her gold medal at the Olympiastadion later tonight, with IAAF vice-president and London 2012 chairman Lord Coe scheduled to make the presentation.

Meanwhile, sprinter Dwain Chambers - sixth in the 100m final in a season's best 10 seconds - has withdrawn from tomorrow's 200m heats.

Toby Sandeman had already been forced to pull out before last week's training camp in the Algarve, meaning Marlon Devonish, the former world indoor champion, will be the only British athlete on the startline.

Go run the Dam Hurdles.

thats the problem with some of the britsh athletes. Toughness, use the energy you felt from winning the hep gold and go run the dam Hurdles. Bolt should not run the 200m or the relay then? This is BS.

GB should feel proud of what

GB should feel proud of what they did to Chambers!

No time for these

No time for these withdrawals. You didn't see Spofforth pulling out at the swimming
