The 400m is among a host of British athletes looking to cement their place at the European Championships in Barcelona later this summer, fully aware that an impressive performance at the Alexander Stadium will be required.

Great Britain finished an impressive second at the European Team Championships in Bergen, Norway last weekend, giving UKA head coach Charles van Commenee plenty of reasons for optimism.

Stand-out performers in Birmingham range from sprint veteran Dwain Chambers to world 800m bronze medallist Jenny Meadows while a number of up-and-coming athletes will be looking to stake their claims in the Midlands.

Here are ten athletes to follow at the Aviva European Trials and UK Championships, which get underway on Friday.
