Farah smashed five seconds off the previous best as he crossed to line in 27 minutes and 50 seconds, well ahead of nearest rivals, Kenya's Samuel Kosgei and eight-time European cross country champion Sergiy Lebid.
It's already been a stellar year for the 26-year old Londoner, who certainly needed a boost after failing to make the 5,000m final at last year's Beijing Olympics.
He broke John Mayock's long-standing European indoor 3,000m record and claimed the European indoor gold over the distance in Turin.
"I wanted a decent time but the British record is a big, big bonus," admitted Farah.
"I've been training at high-altitude in France and it's gone really well, I don't know the last time my pre-season training has gone so well. I knew I was in good shape and this really bodes well for the summer.
"I'll probably race over 3,000m on the track in Italy next."
New Zealand's Kim Smith won the women's race with Great Britain's Hattie Dean claiming second, just ahead of Olympic marathon champion Constantina Dita, of Romania.
