Head Coach Charles van Commenee said: “This team has been selected to give us the best possible results at the 2009 IAAF World Championships in Berlin. I expect to see athletes demonstrating their ability to perform at the highest level under pressure."

However, he admitted  injuries could take their toll on medal ambitions.

“It's probably not the strongest British team of all time,” he added.

"Two years ago in Osaka we won five medals and that should be the aim again for this time. Going backwards is not the direction we want.

"I think it's quite an ambitious goal given the strength of the team we have to be ambitious."
