Chris Clarke leads GB youngsters to Serbia
WORLD youth 400m champion Chris Clarke is the pick of the GB athletes heading to next month's European under-20 Championships in Serbia.
The 19-year-old is one of 35 GB youngsters heading to Novi Sad, along with 800m runner Alison Leonard, who came fourth at the World Junior Championships last year.
And 3000m ace Beth Potter will also be among Great Britain's chief medal contenders, after she topped the podium at the England under-20 Championships in Bedford, which doubled as the trials, over the weekend.
"There was an excellent weekend of competition at the trials in Bedford, and it was encouraging to see athletes clearly coming into form at the right stage of the season," said team leader Alison Wyeth.
"The first wave of selections contains a number of athletes currently ranked in the top three in Europe, and they can now begin to focus fully on the championships ahead in order to convert those rankings to medals."
The second and final wave of selections including relay teams will be announced week commencing July 13.
