Egelstaff was comfortably beaten 21-13, 21-16 in just 30 minutes by China's fourth seed Wang Yihan, despite saving three game points in the first end.

In the first round Egelstaff had overcome Finland's number one Anu Nieminen 21-19, 22-20, but she met her match in Wang.

Meanwhile, Wales duo Rachel and Sarah Thomas lasted just 15 minutes against Cheng Wen Hsing and Chien Yu Chin, the seventh seeds from Taiwan, before going down 21-9, 21-3.

English participation was over before it had started when the team withdrew because of security concerns.

Egelstaff will now turn her attentions to the next two European legs of the BWF Super Series - the Denmark Open and the French Open before mounting another assault on the women's singles title at the Bank of Scotland International Championships in her native Glasgow.
