THE men's doubles top seeds have become the latest players to pull out of the World Badminton Championships because of security concerns.

Governing body the Badminton World Federation has confirmed that Austrian duo Jurgen Koch and Peter Zauner had already left the Indian city.

"They left Hyderabad in the early hours of Tuesday stating they did not feel secure," said a BWF statement.

The event has been overshadowed by constant security fears that prompted the entire England team to withdraw from the tournament.

Teams from both Scotland and Wales were taking part in Hyderabad but the Scots revealed they felt like prisoners in their hotel.

And while some of the Austrian team and officials have opted to stay, growing concerns over the spread of swine flu have also been suggested as reasons Koch and Zauner's departure.

Security has been tightened across India ahead of Saturday's Independence Day celebrations while the ongoing fiasco has done little to inspire confidence ahead of next year's Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.
