World Badminton ChampionshipsLU Lan shattered Olympic silver medallist Xie Xingfang's dream of becoming the first woman to win three singles titles at the World Badminton Championships - winning 23-21, 21-12 in an all-Chinese final.

Lu proved her semi-final win over world number two Wang Lin was no fluke, seeing off fifth seed Xie - winner in 2005 and 2006 - in just 38 minutes.

And after a tight first game, Lu admits she was surprised by her compatriot's below par performance in the second.

"I tried to hit fast and finish off rallies quickly," said Lu. "The first game was a bit tough, but the second was quite easy.

"My love for the game has increased after the Olympics.

"I have been working hard to improve my game and I practise a lot."

China dominated the tournament, with Zhang Yawen and Zhao Tingting upstaging team-mates Cheng Shu and Zhao Yunlei in the women's doubles final, winning 17-21, 21-17, 21-16 - while Chinese players also claimed the men's singles and doubles titles.
