The 18-year-old, who took to the court on Wednesday without sampling defeat in the Far East, came undone against China's Deng Xuong and was downed 21-12, 21-12 in just 28 minutes.

It was the first time Milne had even conceded a game in her five contests as her Chinese opponent raised her game with the scores tied a 7-7 in the opener.

It was more of the same in the second game and with Milne leading at 7-5, Deng embarked on a formidable run to lead 13-8 before cruising to victory.

But Milne can take heart from the fact that she was the remaining European in the competition in the last four and she still has the chance to go for bronze against Vietnam's Vu Thi Trang.

"When I arrived at the tournament I would have been happy with the quarter finals so I have to be really happy to have got this far," said Milne.

"So I have to look to tomorrow and the bronze play-off and I will concentrate on that.

"Hopefully I can go home with a bronze medal which would be a great result for me. To come back from the Youth Olympics with a medal is well beyond my expectations."
