GUILDFORD Heat continued their 100 per cent start to the season with a convincing victory over Essex Pirates.

Heat opened their campaign by crushing London Capital 95-65 and continued their fine form by with a 94-76 win over British Basketball League new-boys Pirates.

The home side did not have things all their own way and held a narrow four point advantage at the end of the first quarter.

But Guildford went on a dominant 15-4 run - including two three-pointers from Julius Joseph - in the second to lead 49-42 at half-time.

Heat started the third quarter as they ended the second and a decisive 19-2 burst - with ten points from Mike Martin - rendered the Pirates pointless for seven minutes, with Guildford ending the third quarter 75-50 up.

American Kenny Langhorne - who top scored with 21 points - led from the front in the final stanza as Chad McKnight's side outscored Essex 26-19 to secure their second win of the season and rise to second behind Newcastle Eagles having played a game less.

Meanwhile, Cheshire Jets beat Worcester Wolves 96-83 to hand Wolves their third successive defeat.

After an evenly matched opening quarter, Cheshire went on a 28-17 burst, followed by nine late points from Chez Marks, to take a nine point lead into the dressing rooms.

Wolves emerged for the third quarter with renewed vigour and reduced the defecit to three points but Jets responded with a late 10-4 charge.

Worcester attempted to stage another comeback in the final quarter, but the home side responded blow-by-blow to fight off any challenge and leave Wolves stranded bottom with zero points to their name.
