Eagles pick off Sharks to go top of Championship
NEWCASTLE Eagles' dream run continued as they beat BBL Championship leaders Sheffield Sharks to claim top spot in the table.
The Eagles, who clinched a place in their sixth consecutive BBL Trophy final on Friday, beat their Northern rivals 99-79 to move two points clear, having played one game more.
After establishing a 34-23 lead at the end of the first quarter, the victory never looked in doubt for the Eagles as they completed their 13th win on the bounce.
Former Eagles player Tafari Toney kept the Sharks in the game with 22 points but the Sheffield defence couldn't handle Reggie Jackson and Andrew Sullivan who bagged 24 and 23 respectively for the home team.
Elsewhere, Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders captured their fifth win in six matches courtesy of an overtime victory at Marshall MK Lions.
Jason Johnson, Bradd Wierzbicki and LaTaryl Williams all scored more than 20 points for the Riders but 36 - including ten three-pointers - from Yorick Williams meant the Riders needed an extra period to complete a 104-101 win.
Meanwhile, Glasgow Rocks continued to cement their place in third with a 85-62 defeat of bottom club PAWS London Capital while Worcester Wolves scored a 107-94 win at home to Everton Tigers.
