Rocks cling to Tigers coattails with impressive victory
SCOTTISH Rocks kept the pressure up on league-leaders Everton Tigers with a 78-62 victory over the Cheshire Jets - the eighth time they've done so in nine years.
Blake Shelton led the way with 17 points with Wilbur Johnson chipping in with 12 and Marc Pratt adding 11 against his former club.
For the visitors, Phil Perre, once a Rock, was in inspirational form netting 21 points but with Chez Marks and Alto Virgil both missing the Cheshire outfit were founding wanting.
Perre notched six points in a 14-3 run for the visitors, helping them into a 16-12 lead at the end of the first period but Pratt soon put the hosts into a lead they would not relinquish.
The Rocks began to pull away from the Jets with Shelton on fire from long distance as the hosts established a 15-point lead at 60-45.
In the final quarter the hosts found themselves 78-55 to the good and despite a late cameo from Phil Brandreth - including a buzzer-beating three pointer, the hosts coasted to victory.
