Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics SHELLEY Rudman may be struggling to get to grips with the treacherous Whistler Sliding Centre track in Vancouver, but team-mate Amy Williams has stepped up to the mark.

The world silver medallist was second fastest in both of Wednesday's final training runs, just as she was in Tuesday's opening session, before slipping to fourth in the second.

Rudman meanwhile, was again well off the pace in her opening run on Wednesday, finishing 13th and while she improved to fourth in her second outing, the Olympic silver medallist admitted she is having problems with the track.

But Williams, a team-mate of Rudman's in name only, having admitted their relationship is frosty, is leading the chasing pack as Canada's Mellisa Hollingsworth continues to set the pace.

"I stuck to my plan today. I managed to enjoy it, and whenever I relax, enjoy it and have fun, it seems to work out," she said.

"It's a four run race. I'm normally quite consistent and I'm hoping that will pay off."

Meanwhile, Rudman admitted time is running out to get things right if she is to revisit the Olympic podium in Vancouver.

"I'm still figuring the track out. I could do with ten more runs on the track," she added. "I thought I could correct quite a few corners today but I'm having a few problems on the top section of the track, but the bottom section is coming..

"The next two days will be quite interesting. There are four runs and I can't afford any mistakes."

In men's training, Rudman's fiancé Bromley finished eighth and ninth in his two runs as again it is Canada, courtesy of their home advantage, who lead the way, in the shape of Jon Montgomery.

"I'm in the mix, and that's all I could ask for," said Bromley. "I wasn't pushing too hard today, I'm saving my legs for the next two days.

"I don't know how anyone else has prepared, you can only really worry about what you're doing. It's really down to focusing on your own game plan."

Bromley's team-mate Adam Pengilly continues to struggle and could only muster finishes of 19th in both is runs.

"Tomorrow is another day, but I¹ve got some work to do to raise my game," he said. "My goal is to have four really solid runs."

The first two runs of both the men's and women's skeleton competitions begin on Thursday.
