Winter Olympics

JUST when Amy Williams was coming back down to earth - following her Olympic skeleton victory - she gets to meet an astronaut.

Williams is getting glammed up to attend a sponsors cocktail party in Vancouver's Fairmont Hotel later today.

And the guest of honour will receive an Omega watch to celebrate her achievement from Buzz Aldrin, who knows a thing or two about being over the moon.

According to reports, Williams is set to earn millions when she returns home to the UK - after bagging Britain's first individual Winter Olympic medal in three decades.

However, much the same was predicted for Rhona Martin's curling team after they won Olympic gold in Salt Lake City eight years ago.

Martin and her rink returned home to enjoy their new celebrity, appearing on Richard and Judy, Question of Sport, receiving MBES and quitting their full-time jobs.

And while they made a few bob, the predicted millions didn't come and before the Turin Games, Martin was reportedly living on welfare.

Sponsorship experts are quick to point out the appeal of the easy on the eye Williams but with London staging the summer Olympics in two years time, money for endorsements could be pulled elsewhere.
