The welterweight fighter missed August's World Championships in Milan after breaking his thumb in a training bout.

And lightning struck twice when Saunders injured his hand again in a fall, leaving the 23-year-old staring at another six weeks out.

Saunders had been in fine form since crashing out of the Beijing Olympics in the second round, winning all all 14 of his bouts including victory over world number one and Olympic champion Alexei Tishchenko.
