Greaves blew away the competition with a throw of 59.27m on his fourth throw, comfortably clear of Beijing Paralympic gold medallist Jeremy Campbell in second.

The 28-year-old, who broke the record he set winning World Championship gold in New Zealand in January, was joined on the podium by 20-year-old teammate Aled Davies who produced a world-leading throw of 44.77m in the F42 category to claim bronze.

"I am really happy about the event," said Greaves who was forced to settle for bronze in Beijing after gold in Athens four years earlier.

"It has been fantastic to perform in front of a home crowd with family and friends, especially as they could not all be there in New Zealand in January.

"I am pleased that the hard work is paying off. My aim is to break new records and this is a great stepping stone."

And there was more British success on the track with Katrina Hart picking up a gold and a silver in the 100m and 200m respectively.

The 21-year-old was in impressive form as she wrapped up the 100m in 14.43 but was just pipped in the 200m by Russian Elena Ivanova, while fellow Brit Jenny McLoughlin claimed bronze in both.

Meanwhile 17-year-old GB star Ola Abidogun also impressed winning gold over 200m in a time of 23.04.

And he just missed out on a second victory in the 100m as Russian Yury Nosulenko beat him by one one-hundredth-of-a-second in 11.36.

In the 400m Ian Jones had to settle for silver behind a flying Oscar Pistorius who broke his own world record in 47.28.

Jones, who endured a torrid World Championships after a car crash in December, came through in 51.86, just half a second off his personal best.

Finally, Libby Clegg claimed two medals, a silver in the 200m and bronze in the 100m.
