The 31-year-old from Glasgow captured victory in two of the three K1 races over the weekend in Nottingham and will line up for Team GB on the same Pierrepoint course on May 29.

"With no pressure, I was hoping to produce a flyer on the afternoon run but I was disappointing to have a few small time losses to go 3 seconds slower," he stated.

"However, this proved good enough to still win race three, and happily secure the overall win."

He looks set to be joined by Huw Sweetnam, who was victorious in race one - clocking 97.3 seconds, and came home second in race three.

Olympic silver medallist David Florence will also be in action at the European Championships in both C1 and C2 competitions, after an impressive showing in Nottingham.

The 26-year-old from Aberdeen eased his way to victory ahead of Mark Goddard in the individual competition, and will double up with Richard Hounslow in the C2, after the duo finished second at the trials behind Tim Baillie and Etienne Scott.

In the women's K1 event, victory went to GB under-23 star Lizzie Naeve, while Louise Donnington and Laura Blakeman were second and third respectively.
