KAYAKERS Dean Terry, Tom Simmons and Matt Welch all performed admirably before bowing out at the final hurdle of the Junior World Championships in Moscow.

Terry competed in the K1 category while Simmons and Welch raced together in the K2 - with both crews competing over 500m and 1000m.

It was the lone kayaker who took to the water first in the 1000m, qualifying comfortably from his heat before coming third in a strong semi-final - qualifying for the final as fastest loser, where he finished eighth.

The 18-year-old could not repeat his semi-final heroics in the 500m and qualified for the B final, finishing 2nd.

Simmons and Welch found themselves in an equally strong semi-final in their 1000m race, coming fifth to miss out on a final place.

But the duo made amends in the 500m, finishing ninth after comfortably qualifying for the final.
