GREAT Britain's Ed McKeever powered to victory at the sprint canoeing World Cup - underlining his Olympic ambition.

McKeever made a blistering start in the K1 200m event and battled a strong headwind to edge out Spain's Saul Craviotto and the Russia's Maxim Molochkov.

Team-mates Liam Heath and Jon Schofield also got on the podium, finishing second to powerful French partnership Arnaud Hybois and Sebastien Jouve in the K2 200m.

“It was fantastic to see our athletes make the podium today and many congratulations to Ed, Jon and Liam," said GB Canoeing performance director John Anderson.

"The standard of 200m racing has stepped up dramatically this year now it is an Olympic event and it is great to see that our most consistent athletes on the programme are still delivering at the highest level in what is only the first big race of the season.”
