Canadian skip Kevin Koe maintains his 100 percent record as the favourites notched up an impressive 6-2 win over the Scots.
Smith's rink of David Smith, Craig Wilson and Ross Hepburn were never ahead and the game was all but over when the Canadian's picked up three shots in the third end.
The Scots conceded after six of the ten ends and are now joint second in the table with Norway, with the Canadians leading the way with six victories.
Scotland will look to get their campaign back on track as they face Germany later today, with skip Andy Kapp needing a victory to keep his rink's play-off hopes alive.
"We'll just bin that and start again," said Smith, whose rink defeated last year's world champion David Murdoch to earn their place at the event in Italy.
"We've got a big day today. Two games back-to-back, with not too much break between the sessions. If you get that far down against a great team like Canada, you're as well getting off the ice to start preparing for the next game."
Meanwhile, the USA defeated France 7-5, Denmark overcame Sweden 10-4 and the Norwegians dominated 7-1 against the Swiss.
