Addison, who has never competed at an Olympic Games, had been named alternate in skip Eve Muirhead's team.  The Turin Olympians, Kelly Wood and Jackie Lockhart plus Olympic newcomer Lorna Vevers completing the rink.

As alternate, 39-year-old Addison won European Championship silver medals in 1995 and 2007, as well as a bronze at the 2007 World Championships.

But it is understood she asked to be deselected following preparations in Scotland, where the team were in action at last weekend's Glynhill Ladies' International at Braehead.

Muirhead's team are due to fly out to the British Olympic Association's training camp in Calgary later this month and British Curling are expected to announce Addison's replacement later today.
