Scot Muirhead sees off Sweden to book Canada semi final

 EVE Muirhead is one match away from a place in the World Championships final after another convincing victory over Sweden in Swift Current.

The 19-year-old, who finished seventh in her maiden Olympic appearance in Vancouver last month, romped to an impressive 8-3 win over Sweden, who are the Olympic champions, even if gold medal-winning skip Anette Norberg is absent from Swift Current.

Muirhead, ably assisted by Kelly Wood, Annie Laird and Lorna Vevers has been in impressive form at the World Championships but slipped to consecutive defeats to Canada and Russia in her final two round-robin matches.

Prior to that, the triple junior world champion had racked up eight wins from her opening nine matches and she made it nine victories against Sweden's 22-year-old skip Cecilia Ostlund to book a semi-final clash with Jennifer Jones of Canada.

Muirhead has been saying all along that Jones, who missed out on an Olympic place in Vancouver after Cheryl Bernard won the Canadian trials, will be the one to beat in Swift Current.

Jones had the better of Muirhead when the two met in the round-robin stages, slumping to an 8-5 defeat, but the Canadian has since suffered a demoralising defeat to Germany's Andrea Schoepp who awaits in the final.

Against Sweden, Muirhead was always in the ascendancy. The two skips exchanges singles in the opening two ends but in the third the Scot established a two-point cushion with a double.

And after a scoreless fourth end, a triple from the teenager all but booked Scotland's clash with Canada.

Sweden did respond with a single but Muirhead was not to be outdone and stretchered her lead with another double and while Ostlund grabbed one more single, she threw in the towel with two ends still to play.
