Impressive Storey defends Para-Cycling world time trial title
SARAH Storey underlined her Paralympic ambitions by defending her C5 time trial title at the IPC World Para-Cycling Championships.
Storey, a seven-time Paralympic champion, beat nearest rival Anna Harkowska by over a minute - securing an incredible 13th world title in swimming and cycling as she covered the 22.8km course in 33.36.40.
"The preparation I've had this year has been fantastic and am looking forward to riding in the rainbow jersey for another year," said Storey.
"I wanted to pace my ride really well and finish strong. The girls in my class are improving all the time and when Harkowska was 5 seconds up at the first time check, I didn't panic and rode at my pace."
Elsewhere, David Stone won the T2 men's time trial while Rachel Morris won her H3 classification in style, besting nearest rival, Switzerland's Sandra Graf, by well over two minutes.
Shaun McKeown won bronze in the C3 class, while British team-mate Rik Waddon just missed out on a medal in fourth.
McKeown has been re-classified at these championships to C3, having ridden most of the year in the more abled C4 class.
"I've had some good results this year in C4, but together with my coaches, had thought I may well be in the C3 class," he said.
