LAURA Trott will not be allowed to sacrifice her campaign for Olympic gold in the team pursuit for a crack at two medals.

Rising star Trott, 20, won bronze in the six-event omnium at the UCI World Cup in London - despite not training for the competition.

And such is her youthful confidence that she fancies her chances of doing the double again this summer.

However, as a reigning world and European champion in the team pursuit and, following last week's Olympic test event, world record holder, she knows that she needs to prioritise.

“I wanted to get a medal but it probably wasn't expected," admitted Trott.

“However, I believe I can beat these girls and I got a medal off the back of only team pursuit training.

“But it’s a really tough event mentally to keep yourself motivated for every race."

British Cycling performance director Dave Brailsford insists Trott will have to focus on the team pursuit - where Wendy Houvenhaghel, Dani King and Jo Rowsell are also in competition for the three available places.

"Laura Trott is only going to get better, she was just phenomenal in the omnium," he said.

"Team pursuit training lends itself well to the omnium but you need to prioritise and the team pursuit medal is the priority medal for us.

"As soon as you start focussing on two medals, your chances of winning drop away a little bit. You can't be greedy but she's put herself right in the mix."
