The 37-year old, who currently sits third in the general classification with three stages to come, will front a new American Pro-Tour team named RadioShack next season.
Armstrong, who is currently riding for Kazakh-funded team Astana, has made no secret of his desire to run his own team.
It has not been confirmed whether Johan Bruyneel - who played such as pivotal role in Armstrong's career at US Postal Service and Discovery - will be involved in RadioShack.
He announced he will quit his role at the head of Astana yesterday.
"To be able to compete for an American team comprised of the world's top cyclists, supported by the best coaches and staff - I couldn't be happier to partner with RadioShack, a truly iconic American brand," said Armstrong.
RadioShack confirmed they expected Armstrong to compete in the team colours as a ‘cyclist, runner and triathlete in events around the world, including the 2010 Tour de France'.
Armstrong won seven consecutive Tour de France yellow jerseys between 1999 and 2005 and was also a double US sprint triathlon champion in 1989 and 1990.
