Hunter, who is leading a delegation of 371 athletes in his first Games as chef de mission, is already in the Indian capital with an advance party of team officials.

Delhi's preparations for the Games have been hit by setback after setback, with a series of deadlines to complete building work missed.

However, earlier this week organising committee chief Suresh Kalmadi insisted all venues were now completed - just under three weeks before the opening ceremony.

"The village will be fantastic.  We will begin working there today and, once the final security lockdown is complete, we will begin living there from the weekend onwards," said Hunter.

"The accommodation for England is looking good and yesterday they began the final deep-clean.

"The training facilities for several sports on-site are first class and we are looking forward to the Games."
