John Whitaker, whose niece Ellen had controversially quit the team over a row with performance director Rob Hoekstra, jumped a clear round on Peppermill and Ben Maher and Robin Hood W followed suit.

But four faults from Peter Charles and Murka's Pom d'Ami and 17 faults from Michael Whitaker, whose horse GIG Amai lost a shoe, cost Great Britain a chance of a higher placing.

France took gold with Germany claiming silver but Britain consolidated their second place in the overall Nations Cup rankings.
