MICHEL Robert claimed show-jumping's most prestigious prize at the Global Champions Tour Final in Doha on Saturday.

The Frenchman rode Kellemoi de Pepita round the Qatar course in 49.76 seconds to finish ahead of Belgium's Jos Lansink on Valentina van't Heike in second.

Brazil's Alvaro de Miranda, riding AD Picolien Zeldenrust, finished in 46.52 secs but received a four-point penalty leaving him with bronze.

Robert qualified for the tour finals in fifth having only competed in three of the eight events over the season.

But having finished second in Italy, fourth in Spain and third in the Netherlands, it was only a matter of time before the Frenchman found his way to the top of the podium.

Great Britain's sole representative in the final in Qatar was Robert Whitaker who finished 14th on Casino.
