Tragedy as rider dies in Belton Park Horse Trials

A PROFESSIONAL three-day event rider has died after falling from his horse at the Belton Park Horse Trials in Lincolnshire.

An investigation into the accident has been launched after Ian Olding, 47, died after falling in an advanced section of the course.

Alex Fox, chairman of British Eventing, said: "Our sympathies on this sad day are with Ian's family.

"Ian was a well-known and much respected rider who has been competing for many years.

"Our thoughts are with his family and friends."

A Lincolnshire Police spokesman added: "There are no suspicious circumstances we are aware of. Normal inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the accident are ongoing."
