The 16-year-old double Olympic fencer was fifth in the world foil rankings prior to his arrival in the Danish capital, where he overcame Poland's Radoslaw Glonek 15-8 in the final.

Kruse, the 2009 European Championship silver medallist, made his breakthrough in Copenhagen last season, defeating Israel's Tomer Or to close in on the top 20 in the world.

Meanwhile, Jon Willis won the epee A grade at Kish Island in Iran, beating Ali Yaghoobian 15-13 in the final.

In the cadets, Tom Edwards won the epee title at Dinart in Belgium, while Philip Marsh came third in the epee at the Friedrickshafen event in Denmark.
