Plushenko takes aim again at skating's judging system

Plushenko, who will be just 31, claims the lure of a home Games is strong and also fuelled a debate about the worthiness of new Olympic champion Evan Lysacek.
Lysacek claims he felt let down by his rival's post-competition comments, which questioned whether his more conservative routine was worthy of an Olympic champion.
And in an interview with Canadian broadcaster CTV, Plushenko went even further - with judges the focus of his disappointment.
"I did a quad combined with a triple, he (Lysacek) did three triples," said Plushenko. "And the judges gave me only three points more, it's completely ... well, I don't understand.
"How is it possible to compete without quads? This guy cannot jump a quad.
"His skating is very good, but mine is also not bad.
"I agree you need to skate, you need to spin, but I think you don't have just to skate, we need to jump too."
Lysacek believes Plushenko has failed to adapt to skating's rule changes, which were introduced after he took a sabbatical from the sport following his 2006 Olympic victory in Turin.
"I don't know why he of all people is making such a big deal of one single element," he said.
"It's just one step in a program of a hundred of steps, which are all equally important.
"I don't know why people are hung up on the quad. If it was a jumping competition, there would be no music and no costumes and they'd give you ten seconds to do your best jump."
But Plushenko believes the new scoring system means the sport is standing still and refusing to push the boundaries.
"Elvis Stojko was skating 15 years ago and he was doing quads. In 2002 in Salt Lake, Alexei Yagudin won with two quads," he added.

HERES SOME REASON Y EVAN IS BETTER
heres some reasons y evan is better
1.his jumps were flawless
2.his spins were FAST
3.his artistry was better then normal (and plushys)
heres some reasons y plushy got second
1.his jumps were ALL off
2.mess up in the 4-3 jump 3 had a wierd landing
3.his spins were sluggish
4.HE'S A CRYBABY
like seriously, re-watch the programs!!!! evans was clearly BETTER
Plushenko is the the greatest!
Who said Plushenko didn't have the in between jumps stuff is blind. I mean really blind. Plushenko is famous for his perfection, musicality and body expression...no one else have his to the finger point perfection in this game. He did a perfect program with a quad in combination. Only one triple was rocky, but not so rocky to be score demaging. He didn't touch down, double foot landing or anything. And he landed a quad triple combination perfectly.
Watching Lysancek dancing around was so boring...to have butterfly arm position is not art! Plushenko can take the crowd to another level and his carisma is out of this world. Americans are known to dislike anything that is to good and can't be bought.
Come on....ALexei Yagudin did 2 quads 8 years ago to win. And he won cause Plushenko fell his during the short program. The competition was between Plushy and Yagudin. Now, there is noone that can match Plushenko. He is just that good. He doesn't even have to do a 4-3-2 combination an a quad by himself....4-3 is way ahead for this day standards. As americans think this day....it's even bad to do a quad....better to do just triple jumps, that high school girls can do. ehhhh, stupid people! I thought it was Olympic games...not the worst wins games.
u know wat? lets c ur ass
u know wat? lets c ur ass doin a quad or a triple!!!! the only reason he didnt do the quad was bcause of a hurt foot, he did everything flawlessly also and had good artistry (slightly surprising) while plushanko messed up a little bit but yes there was a quad but that doesnt mean his WHOLE routine was better... thats wat its about. the ROUTINE not the QUAD
"Who said Plushenko didn't
"Who said Plushenko didn't have the in between jumps stuff is blind." - No actually anyone that sees things that aren't there are delusional, and the "in-between" moves that you're referring to are called transitions moron. If you don't know anything about the subject, which you CLEARLY don't, then stop commenting. "Plushenko is famous for his perfection, musicality and body expression...no one else have his to the finger point perfection in this game." - No he's famous for falling, making stupid mistakes in jumps, and being overmarked in BOTH systems. "He did a perfect program with a quad in combination." - He DIDN'T do a perfect program. His jumps were off-axis, they were landed on the toepick, and the last jump in the FIRST combo that you're referring to (falsely) was LEFT OUT - hence the loss of points. "Only one triple was rocky, but not so rocky to be score demaging." - Three triples were completely off, you need to learn how to count and spell. "He didn't touch down, double foot landing or anything." - He doesn't need to touch-down anymore airhead, they have what's called a "Grade of Execution," that means that if the jumps are SLOPPY (which they were) the skater gets NEGATIVE POINTS. "And he landed a quad triple combination perfectly." - The combo was SUPPOSED to be a 4-3-2 but because it WAS SLOPPY and landed ON THE TOEPICK, he couldn't get enough momentum and therefore couldn't complete the last jump - again, that's why he lost the points.
"Watching Lysancek dancing around was so boring...to have butterfly arm position is not art! Plushenko can take the crowd to another level and his carisma is out of this world." - What's even more boring is watching you ignorant PUSSenko fans try to write in English, then again it's also amusing. "Americans are known to dislike anything that is to good and can't be bought." - And stupid Russians are known for buying people off to win at all costs, because believe me, PUSSenko isn't TOO good and it's too bad for you anyway.
"Come on....ALexei Yagudin did 2 quads 8 years ago to win." - No retard, that's not the only reason that Yags won, he also had something that you've never seen before - Artistic Ability. And Timothy Goebel had three quads in the LP in the 2002 Olympics, so what's your point? "And he won cause Plushenko fell his during the short program." - He won because he's BETTER, and he doesn't front-load his programs. And if you really paid attention EVER, you would know that the fall wasn't the ONLY mistake PUSSY made in 2002's Oly's SP; he also fell out of the same jump that he missed this year and doubled a triple salchow in the LP, so it's plainly obvious that you pay NO attention to anything that your favorite does badly. I guess you never pay attention because PUSSY never skates cleanly. "The competition was between Plushy and Yagudin." - It wasn't just between the Russian because Goebel should have had the silver, according to the whiny-bitch PUSSenko himself. "Now, there is noone that can match Plushenko." - They already did, again you don't pay attention because there's nothing there to match. "He is just that good." - And you're still just that stupid and delusional. "He doesn't even have to do a 4-3-2 combination an a quad by himself....4-3 is way ahead for this day standards." - That made absolutely no sense, and he did HAVE to do the 4-3-2 and the fact that he COULDN'T is why he lost. "As americans think this day....it's even bad to do a quad....better to do just triple jumps, that high school girls can do." - Yeah, because you can really do a triple, you have the mental capacity of a little girl - and PUSSY doubles most of his triples too, so that makes him a little girl as well. "ehhhh, stupid people!" - And they're all defending the PUSSY, how ironic. "I thought it was Olympic games...not the worst wins games." - Then PUSSenko shouldn't have been there. He was handed the Gold in 2006 even though he made multiple mistakes then too, so it's about time that the system is finally righting itself.
Can someone give Plushenko a
Can someone give Plushenko a spanking? He's acting like a little kid who needs some discipline.
Yes, Evgeni did harder jumps, but he looked like an amateur in execution. Why doesn't he say anything about that?
Yes, maybe a champion should be able to do a quad. But a champion should also be able to do a clean triple, which Plushenko clearly had trouble with.
1 messy quad + 3 incompetent triples do not outweigh 3 well executed triples. Plushenko needs to get back to learning to do triple jumps.
Plush is certainly being a
Plush is certainly being a poor sport about this. Get over it. He managed to stay on his skates and do a few jumps, but the quality was not there. He was much better at Cup of Russia.
Each competitor knows the new scoring code. Lysacek built his program around the scoring code, doing many jumps where they'd receive bonus points. And then he delivered. His program was flawless. Plushy landed his jumps, but there were small mistakes in form. And his spins and footwork don't match Lysacek's.
THANK U!!!!!!! someone
THANK U!!!!!!! someone agrees with me!!!!!!! srry 4 my txt riting im not very good at nice writing...
What a Sore Loser!
Alexei Yagudin beat Evgeni Plushenko in 2002, not because he did 2 quads, but because he was a much better skater and performer than Plushenko. That's exactly why Lysacek won this time around, too.
Plushenko's NEVER had the whole package. Yes, he can do a quad. And sometimes that wins the day (if other skaters two-foot a landing or fall, for example). But where he fails (where he has ALWAYS failed) -- and where Alexei and now Evan won -- is on the SKATING part of the program.
There's nothing in between Plushenko's jumps, and they're all in the front half of his program. Lysacek had a lot of his jumps in the second half where they score more (because you're much more tired after 2 and a half minutes of skating than you are after 30 seconds of skating), and every single one of his elements was spot-on. Plushenko's jumps looked awful in the air: he was off-axis on nearly all of them, so he got down-graded on the Grade of Execution mark. It's not enough just to not fall on the jump; it has to look good too. Evan's did. Evgeni's didn't. That night, Evan was the better skater, and the system worked.

I agree. Plushenko was the
I agree. Plushenko was the BEST and he got a silver?!? I just want to point out I will not be watching mens figure skating again because of this upset. I'm outraged.
dude seriously watch the
dude seriously watch the program CLOSLEY and u can c many mistakes in plushankos program
I can't believe Evgeni was
I can't believe Evgeni was robbed of that medal. I am very dissapointed with the judges decision, I mean how could they? Plushenko clearly was the superior skater between the two and he skated the best on the day.. so what do the judges do.. give him a silver??? What is mens figure skating going to?
