SINEAD and John Kerr insist they have made the right decision to stick with contemporary music for their free dance in this Olympic year.

After striking European bronze last year and reaching December's Grand Prix Finals in Tokyo, the Scottish siblings are being talked about as genuine medal contenders in Vancouver.

But if there's one thing which will mark the British pair out from their rivals in February, it's the contemporary music accompanying their free dance routine - Krwlng by Linkin Park.

And while it may have been the easy option to revert to a more traditional instrumental piece to try and appease any traditionalist judges, the Kerrs are adamant they think it's safer for them to stick to the modern music they know best.

"We feel like it would have been more of a risk to change things," said John. "Certain pairs become renowned for different things and we are renowned for the different types of music we use compared to other pairs.

"I think we'd be cheating ourselves and cheating the audience if we were to change it, whether it was an Olympic year or not.

"We've always felt like we want to be skating to something we believe in and love."

Sinead added: "We wouldn't be being true to ourselves if we changed - it just wouldn't be us.

"I think the audiences have come to expect something different from us and we enjoy providing it.

"We could go out there and perform a routine to something different - like Carmen -  but it just wouldn't suit us.  We have always wanted to pick music we enjoy."

The duo have just their free dance remaining on Saturday to seal a record-breaking seventh consecutive national title at the British Ice Skating Championships in Sheffield.

And after having scored more than 86 for their routine at both Grand Prix events they've attended this season, it seems the judges are sufficiently impressed.

But the Kerrs are adamant they see it as their role to impress someone else too - the audience.

"Entertainment is the key to every sport but for something like ours, it plays an even bigger part," said John.

"Ice skating is a sport where lots of young kids come along and it's important to inspire a new generation of fans.

"So dancing to music the kids know and making the competition as fun as possible is something that draws people to the sport."
