Exodus hoping for extended World Student Games stay
WHILE MOST footballers are getting back from the beach Exodus Geohaghon is fully focused on continuing his marathon season.
The Kettering colossus hasn't had a break since he first pulled on his boots for pre-season 12 months ago but insists he is as fit as a fiddle ahead of Great Britain's opener in the World Student Games in Belgrade.
Geohaghon, who graduated from the University of Wolverhampton with a degree in Film and Video production, is the standout name after a stunning season with the Poppies and Paul Fairclough's England C squad.
And Geohaghon is hoping to win more admirers with his performances in the next fortnight.
"It's been a long old season and has dragged at times but I've got my rest in when I've needed to and I still feel fresh," said Geohaghon.
"It's fantastic to be part of another squad full of talent and I'm sure I will learn a lot at this tournament.
"I've really enjoyed the time we've spent together at our training camp and we believe we've got a great chance of success.
"It will be a different type of football that I'm used to from the Conference, with more emphasis on passing and technical ability and marking space rather than players but that's going to be good for me and Kettering."
The 24-year-old has played more than 60 games in the last year but admits the success of his first 12 months in full-time football has caught him by surprise.
His Rory Delap-esque long-throws initially caught the eye but the scouts that flocked to Rockingham Road soon realised there was a lot more to his game than just that.
Crystal Palace, Plymouth Argyle and Sheffield United have all been linked but Geohaghon added: "It's been a fantastic year for me and has gone better than I expected if I'm honest.
"The FA Cup run at Kettering was fantastic as was going over to Italy to make my England debut and a lot of people have said nice things about me.
"I've seen my name mentioned with a few clubs, which was very flattering, but I'm happy at Kettering and I want to help the club push on again next season and hopefully I can get into the Football League with them."
