The LA Galaxy midfielder would be 37 by the time London hosts the Olympics. Beckham, who was forced to sit on the sidelines at the World Cup in South Africa with an Achilles injury, is desperate to be part of the Great Britain team.
"If I'm still playing and I'm still considered to make a difference to the team I'd love to, but if not then I'm definitely going to be there anyway," Beckham said.
"It's the east end of London - it's on my manor. To be part of getting the Olympics to the east end of London, it's one of the best experiences that I've ever had."
Beckham played a key ambassadorial role in securing London the Olympics in Singapore in 2005 and was involved in the Beijing 2008 closing ceremony as the Chinese capital passed the Olympic flame onto London.
Great Britain are set to take part in the Olympic football competition for the first time since 1960 but due to wrangling between the home nation associations, the squad will be made up of entirely English players.
Last month, Fifa confirmed they would be maintaining the status quo in the men's Olympic football tournaments, ensuring teams will continue to field under-23 teams, with the addition of three over-age players.
