Heil seals record-breaking fifth moguls crystal globe

CANADA'S Jennifer Heil clinched a record-equalling fifth World Cup moguls crystal globe on Saturday after finishing third in the penultimate event of the season in Are.

The 26-year old, who relinquished her Olympic title to USA's Hannah Kearney in Vancouver last month, lost out to Kearney again in the semi-finals of the dual moguls event in Sweden.

But Heil then won her bronze medal dual clash with Eliza Outtrim to strike bronze and seal her fifth overall title - equalling USA's 1992 Olympic champion Donna Weinbrecht's achievement.

Kearney eventually won gold in Sweden, her second in as many days, to move into second in the World Cup standings on 566 points

But Heil has an unassailable lead of 159 going into the final event in Sierra Nevada next week and admitted it was an honour to be compared to Weinbrecht.

"I would have to say this is one of the sweetest wins," said Heil, who won her four other crystal globes between 2004 and 2007.

"To tie Donna for the all-time record is definitely nothing I had wished for when I started the sport.

"She's one of the most beautiful skiers.

"She had the best quality of turns and she really dominated the sport in her time, so to be in that same category is really special."

Meanwhile, France's Guilbaut Colas kept his World Cup title hopes alive with victory in the men's event in Sweden.

The Frenchman beat Canada's Maxime Gingras in the final to capture his third win of the season and move to third in the standings on 515 point.

Australia's Dale Begg Smith remains in pole position to clinch his fourth crystal globe, 98 points ahead of Colas, but Sweden's Jesper Bjoernlund could still spoil the party.

He lies 72 down on Begg Smith ahead of the final event in Sierra Nevada.
