Schmid takes World Cup title to add to Olympic glory
MICHAEL Schmid has secured the ski cross World Cup title with one race to go as he won his fourth gold of the season in Meiringen-Hasliberg, Switzerland.

The Swiss now cannot be caught in the overall standings as he sits on 715 points, 218 ahead of Canada's Christopher Delbosco, who claimed bronze in the penultimate event of the season.
Schmid, who won the inaugural ski cross competition at the Vancouver Winter Olympics, won each of his four heats to ensure his first overall World Cup title.
Audun Groenvold took the silver medal for Norway and remains in third place in the standings with 450 points.
Meanwhile, the women's crystal globe will go down to the wire as Ophelie David from France came second to keep her place at the top of the overall rankings with 655 points.
She is 73 points ahead of Canada's Ashleigh McIvor, who could only manage a fifth place in Switzerland, while Sweden's Anna Holmlund took gold to move her up to fourth on 422 points.
Norway's Narte Hoeie Gjefsen came third to take her points tally to 321 and sixth overall.
The final ski cross World Cup event is in Sierra Nevada, Spain on March 20.
