IT just simply doesn't make any sense to me.............

I can't understand how it can work out that the powers that be will not give Emily Sarsfield and I any backing or any support to try to ski in the ski cross at the Vancouver Olympics.

This year I have been supporting myself and travelling to all the World Cup events to make sure I meet the International Olympic Committee standards that they require to make the Olympic qualifying standard.

At the next World Cup event in Myrkdalen-Voss, Norway if I ski well I should make the IOC standards to qualify for Vancouver 2010.

But we have been told that the British Olympic Association is then going to impose their own standards which are probably going to be virtually impossible.

It's absolutely incredible that someone who has never even seen our event and doesn't bother to come out to see us compete can then set us goals.

They've never seen it and they don't understand it.

You wouldn't set diving criteria without seeing what it is like.

If they stuck to the IOC criteria I would be almost qualified by now but as it is I've got a huge, huge task to get to Vancouver.

While we are really hopeful of achieving the qualification, it looks like they are going to set either a top 15 or top 20 finish at the World Championships in Japan in March.

That's going to be incredibly difficult.

I have just come back from competing at a World Cup event at Cypress Mountain in Canada which is where the Olympics is going to be held which was fantastic.

Seeing the mountain and the course makes it all the more disappointing that the qualifying target we have been set is so incredible.

Emily and I get absolutely no funding from Snowsports GB - I have two jobs in the summer back in Australia.

One part-time job at a hospital, a second working as a personal assistant while I am also studying Business Marketing at Swinburne University.

As you can imagine it's pretty difficult to fund all the trips I make.  This year I have already competed in Canada, America, France (twice) and Austria.

In past years I have only competed in the European events because I base myself here in the winter, but to try and get myself to Vancouver I've been all over the world.

I've another expensive trip to come to Norway and Sweden (World Cup events) and then the World Championships in Japan.

It's a good life and I am not complaining but it is just so disappointing that we don't get funding.

I could understand it if we were in a non-Olympic discipline but ski cross is, so we really should get a bit more backing both money-wise and in regards to the setting of the Olympic qualifying standards.

Knowledge is defined by the

Knowledge is defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as (i) expertise, and skills acquired by a person through experience or education; the theoretical or practical understanding of a subject; (ii) what is known in a particular field or in total; facts and information; or (iii) awareness or familiarity gained by experience of a fact or situation. Philosophical debates in general start with Plato's formulation of knowledge as "justified true belief." There is however no single agreed definition of knowledge presently, nor any prospect of one, and there remain numerous competing theories. Knowledge acquisition involves complex cognitive processes: perception, learning, communication, association and reasoning. The term knowledge is also used to mean the confident understanding of a subject with the ability to use it for a specific purpose if appropriate. This article epitomises all

This article epitomises all that's wrong with British sports. There is never proper sponsorship at the lower levels and as for facilities and training, I'll leave that aside for now.
Keep the determination going and you'll make them ashamed of their bureaucracy.

ski cross

Go for it sarah
You are an inspiration my 15 yr old freestyler daughter loves ski cross and already thinking shed like to go for 2014 now snowsports gb seem doomed maybe someone sensible will come forward all the very best well all be cheering you on

The lack of support for

The lack of support for freestyle skiing in GB is rather ineffective. In comparison to the funding drafted for other winter sports set by the BOA and with a small percentage being allocated to freestyle skiing it is extremely disappointing to hear that no financial arrangements have been allocated to Ski Cross for coaching and development of the existing olympic hopefuls.

With the non traditional Winter Sporting nations, Freestyle Skiing is definitely the way forward in my opinion to attracting more fans and followers and more competitors to the Winter Sports Development. Especially Ski Cross, to compete side by side fighting through a course full of Jumps, Rollers and many more features is certainly just as exhilarating to watch than it would be to compete in.

If there are Athletes willing and competing at the highest level in any sport and are in reach of their goals and dreams in particular, they certainly should not be subjected to criteria set by a governing body who has not seen how the sport in question works and how tough their athletes are doing it.

If an Athlete has made the IOC qualification criteria for the Olympic Games self funded and trained and has been invited to compete at the Olympic Games by the IOC, the athlete should not be rejected by the governing body to attend the games. from what i've seen in the sport of Ski Cross, anything could happen on the Day, especially if you can make it through to the heats! a comparison could be made to the Australian Steven Bradbury winning gold at the Salt Lake City Games.

The qualification criteria set by the IOC is by no means an easy feat, yet these girls are so close to having quota spots allocated and it would be a real tragedy if both of them gain a quota spot but the BOA only send one athlete.

Keep it up girls, you provide inspiration to others during these tough times by working hard focusing and reaching set goals everyday. Dreams can come true just don't let them be taken away by an organization who hasn't done their homework!
