Tweddle won uneven bars gold three years ago in Denmark and arrives at the World Gymnastics Championships at London's o2 arena as the double European champion.

"I wouldn't be competing if I didn't think I could win," she said.

"I'm confident if I do my routines well then I will do well.

"It's easier to catch a champion than be one and I'm doing the chasing this time - which is how I prefer it."

Tweddle has bounced back from her disappointment in Beijing last year, when injury derailed her medal bid, to enjoy a successful 2009.

In addition to winning the floor and asymmetric bars titles in Milan she also won double gold at the World Student Games.

And despite undergoing shoulder surgery in February, the 24-year old has remained otherwise injury-free.

"I have worked a lot with my coach Amanda Kirby and my physios to stave off niggles and aches and it has been tough to recover from surgery, but, touch wood, things are good," she added.

Tweddle initially claimed this would be her farewell to gymnastics - a comment made in the emotional aftermath of her Olympic disappointment.

She has since had a change of heart and this week's championships is a major test event for London 2012 officials, with the once unloved Millennium Dome one of their venue centrepieces.

"It is not every day the World Championships are held on your doorstep, so I'm determined to enjoy it," said Tweddle.

"I've not yet seen the O2 set up for gymnastics but it should be incredible.

"Most venues look identical inside wherever you are, but the O2 is such a different space, it will be really impressive I'm sure."

Tweddle will start her medal bid in Wednesday's qualifying competition, while the men's qualifiers opens the event on Tuesday. For tickets call 0844 856 0202 or visit: www.theo2.co.uk
