YOG 2010: Late disaster strikes to deny Oldham a medal in Singapore

SAM Oldham was left devastated after falling at the final hurdle in his pursuit of an all-around at the Youth Olympics - but insists lightning will not strike twice in Singapore.

The 17-year-old proved his potential in qualifying for the all-around competition in second place and having scooped European junior gold in April in both the all-around and the horizontal bar.
A somewhat shaky start to his final saw Oldham ranked 11th after the floor exercise but bounced back into second place after improving in the pommel horse, rings, vault and parallel bars.
But Oldham's quest for a medal were torn to shreds when a fall on the horizontal bar as he tumbled for second to fifth place overall, as gold went to Yuya Kamoto of Japan.
And while Oldham was left scratching his head over what had happened, he vowed to bounce back in his four remaining finals.
"I am not sure what happened on the horizontal bar but I am absolutely devastate," said Oldham.
"I was really nervous at the beginning of the day just because of the scale of the event.
"I got my way back into it after the floor exercise but I just don't what happened on the horizontal bar.
"I have got four more events over the weekend now and I need to try and forget what happened and look forward to them now. I just need to move on.
"I have got four more chances in the horizontal bar, the parallel bars, pommel horse and floor and hopefully I can come away with a medal."
