One game at a time for Bowdon Hightown
BOWDON Hightown assistant coach Roger Newcombe insists it will be business as usual for his this weekend, despite being on the brink of making history.
The Manchester-based outfit are just one game away from a perfect season, having picked up 17 wins from their 17 games - scoring 59 goals and conceding just nine along the way.
Bowdon have already wrapped up the Premier Division, adding to the indoor title they secured earlier this season.
Newcombe's troops can also claim a historic quadruple with a semi-final clash against Barnes Hounsow Ealing to come before bidding for European glory in April, but he insists Saturday's match with Canterbury comes first.
"There's a great deal of anticipation around the club but the focus has to be Saturday's game," said Newcombe.
"The girls are certainly focused and aware of the record we're hoping to achieve but that is acting as a motivational factor.
"All our training is geared towards Europe but the girls are professional enough to concentrate on Canterbury first."
Saturday's encounter also has significance for Canterbury, who are just one point below Olton And West Warwicks - who occupy second place which provides the final European spot.
And Newcombe is adamant the result is by no means a foregone conclusion on Saturday.
"It's not just a case of getting this match out of the way," he added. "They still have a lot to play for and have home advantage so we're expecting very tough game.
"But we know what we achieve and the girls are raring to go."
